Quark Acquires Assets of
In.vision Research Corporation
Acquisition Unites Key Dynamic Publishing Capabilities into One Integrated Offering
DENVER — July 17, 2008 — Quark
Inc., announced today that it has acquired the assets of In.vision Research Corporation,
a Florida-based software company that develops the industry-leading add-in to
Microsoft® Word for XML authoring. This acquisition elevates Quark to the unique position of being the sole
company to bring together professional design and simplified XML authoring capabilities
into one single integrated system. In addition, this acquisition will enable Quark
to support Microsoft Word users within all types of workflows, both desktop and
enterprise.
In.vision initially partnered with
Quark to supply Xpress Author for Microsoft Word, which helps authors already
familiar with Microsoft Word to easily create
reusable XML content for Quark’s Dynamic Publishing
Solution. By joining forces as a single company with more tightly integrated
products and technologies, Quark and In.vision will further simplify
implementation while extending the breadth and depth of their capabilities.
“Ease of use is critical to the
mainstream adoption of dynamic publishing solutions within enterprises of all
sizes,” commented Melissa Webster, Program VP for Content and Digital Media
Technologies, IDC. “At the same time, XML is key to realizing the full power of
dynamic publishing. In.vision's Word-based XML authoring together with Quark
Dynamic Publishing Solution address these important requirements, and will help
Quark significantly broaden the reach of its new product.”
“Uniting our two companies creates
an ideal combination of complementary products, technologies and knowledge,” said
“Quark is one of very few companies
with the technology and global market presence to lead the billion-dollar
dynamic publishing market,” said John Friske, CEO of In.vision. “This union
bridges the gap between authoring and publishing and will propel Quark to
become the leader in dynamic publishing. We’re excited to be part of this
industry breakthrough.”
As part of this acquisition, Quark also gains
products that support industry standards such as DITA (widely used for
documentation) and SPL (Structured Product Labeling, an initiative of the U.S.
FDA), which helps Quark access other markets and applications. In addition,
In.vision will enhance Quark’s ability to connect to enterprise content
management systems, especially Microsoft SharePoint.
The In.vision products represent fifth generation
enterprise XML authoring and management technologies that currently support
more than 200 financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and federal
government clients. Customers depend on the In.vision products when they have
very large enterprise knowledge management or e-business applications that
require broad user deployment of XML documents and rigorous security
requirements. For
