Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Selects In.vision Xpress Author for Production of Structured Product Labels (SPL) Under the Physician’s Labeling Rule (PLR)

Saint Petersburg, Florida May 29, 2007.

In.vision Research Corporation, the leading provider of software for enterprise XML authoring, announced today that Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals has joined the growing list of companies that have selected Xpress Author for Microsoft Word to prepare Structured Product Labels (SPL) according to the Physicians Labeling Rule.

“Once again we are pleased to see a major pharmaceutical company recognize the ability of Xpress Author to optimize their internal submission processes,” said John Friske, In.vision CEO. “As an established leader in this field, it appears that In.vision has now delivered more licenses for the authoring of structured product labels than all other vendors combined. This is an important industry role and one that we take seriously.”

A 2006 New York Times article reported that studies show approximately 300,000 people are injured and nearly 100,000 are killed in hospitals every year because of medical errors, with prescribing errors being a major cause. According to the Times, studies also show that fewer than one in 10 physicians routinely read drug labels, and when they do read labels, the information is not easily assimilated.

The Physician’s Labeling Rule is designed to help the primary users of prescribing information, healthcare professionals.  The FDA evaluated the usefulness of prescribing information among healthcare professionals to determine whether and how communication could be improved.  After broad consultation with the public and industry, it was clear that prescribing information could be more effective in communicating drug information and there was overwhelming support for FDA's goal of improving the content and format and for the proposed reordering of sections.
